Xiamen is a port city on China’s southeast coast, in Fujian Province. Xiamen (whose name means ‘door to the house’) has always been an important port and one of China’s earliest Special Economic Zones.

Xiamen is one degree north of the Tropic of Cancer, bringing a warm, subtropical climate year round. Even in winter, the coldest nightly temperatures are around 10 Degrees C. July and August can be hot - between 25 and 32 Degrees C - and also humid. Rain is also common, with October to January being the driest months.

There is a risk of typhoons, mainly July to September, although they can be significantly weakened as they tend to cross Taiwan first before the island.
